He also traces the connections between the concepts of fashion and modernity and ultimately considers the importance of evolving fashions to such fields as art, politics, and philosophy. Or maybe the subject of his study appealed to me more than anything I have read in this genre, but Svendsen has some interesting points in his deductions about fashion and the consumer society at large, and I found that his views on parallels and differences between fashion and language are a good precursor to the analysis of today’s visually obsessed fashion consumer, who has taken the illusion of physical and mental perfection a few steps in the wrong direction, and doesn’t really know how to come back on track.
